Healthcare costs have increased year after year recently. A number of people find it difficult to pay for group or individual health insurance plans. In such cases, patients may go without care that they need.
The San Diego County Medical Society Foundation provided services for 40 uninsured patients in the area. For many of the patients, their pain was so severe they were unable to work. More than 550 people have received free care thanks to the program since 2008. San Diego County Medical Society Foundation executive director Kitty Baily says the surgeries help get people back on their feet. "This program gets people out of the emergency rooms and back to good health so that they can return to work or caring for their families," says Baily. "This is possible because of the generosity of our volunteers." It's important for people not to neglect their health. In some cases, a condition can become worse if not treated in a timely fashion. Consumers can search for affordable health insurance quotes online and speak to insurers directly to find a plan that meets their needs and budget. Staying in good health is important for leading a long and productive life. However, some people don't get the medical care they need for one reason or another.
The Hawaii State Department of Health recently released its findings from a survey of the state's children and their healthcare. The report looked at differences in relation insurance status, among other things. Just under 4 percent of the children in Hawaii lack health insurance, compared to slightly over 9 percent nationwide. "While Hawaii's children fair well compared to the rest of the nation, there is much that can be done to improve access and availability of services, and to develop strategies to eliminate cultural and community disparities," says director of health Dr. Chiyome Fukino. Furthermore, the research revealed 80 percent of children with health insurance received preventative care services compared to 66 percent of children without coverage. There are a number of resources people can turn to in order to obtain coverage. People can purchase individual health insurance plans or seek government assistance if a policy can't be obtained through an employer. Thursday, October 21. 2010High number of RI teens get vaccinated
It's important for people to receive the vaccinations their doctor recommends. Not only do they help prevent people from becoming ill, they also help stop disease from spreading.
Vaccination rates have been reported to be particularly high in Rhode Island. In fact, the state ranks second in the country for teen immunization rates. While the statistics are promising, chief of the office of immunization Patricia Raymond says they are trying to give people easy access to important vaccinations. "This year, for the first time, we are offering the seasonal flu vaccine to students at school-based vaccination clinics and through our vaccinate before you graduate program," says Raymond. "We want to offer as many opportunities as possible to get vaccinated and stay healthy." Some people have steered away from vaccines out of fear of potential side effects. Most side effects include soreness, redness and swelling. While uncommon, some people can have severe reactions so it's important for patients to apprise their doctor completely on their medical history. In the future, whether someone receives benefits through a group or an individual health insurance plan, preventative care will be covered. Healthcare less expensive for those who are well
With healthcare costs rising, people are being forced to make more decisions about their own coverage and how they will pay for it. This holds true for those who have both group and individual health insurance plans.
The Utah Department of Health recently completed a survey and found there is a disparity between medical claims between the healthy and sick. Last year, healthy Utah residents cost $385 a year whereas those who were classified as unhealthy cost $1,764 annually. UDOH epidemiologist Carol Masheter says taking proper care of one's self from the start can help prevent more expensive conditions from arising. "As consumers take on more responsibility for their own health and the cost of that care, reports like this can provide helpful information about where to spend scarce dollars," says Masheter. "If we spend our health care money on annual checkups and other preventive care, we'll likely save money down the road." People can maintain good health by making sure they eat a balanced diet and get plenty of exercise. Furthermore, practicing good hygiene by washing hands and covering one's cough can help avoid some illnesses. Monday, October 18. 2010Clinics can provide affordable alternative for healthcare
Among several provisions of the Affordable Care Act, one new regulation includes the requirement for most Americans to obtain health insurance coverage. Some critics have asserted that in the future, patients can expect longer waits to see health care providers as a result of reform and the growing population.
Retail health clinics have begun to show up at a number of locations across the nation. In some cases, they have helped patients receive care in shorter periods of time without sacrificing quality. Recently, a CVS MinuteClinic expanded operations in Washington, D.C. "We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the MinuteClinic to Ward 7," says Councilmember Yvette Alexander. "This is one way to meet the growing demand of health services needed in our community." In addition to searching for affordable health insurance quotes, people may also save money by utilizing retail clinics. Research published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that costs were significantly lower in clinics compared to doctor or emergency room visits. Furthermore, the data found that the quality of care was similar regardless of whether a clinic or physician was visited for three conditions tested in the study. |
