Due to the continued confusion about the future of healthcare around the nation, many employees have been unsure of what will happen with their plan. According to J.D. Power and Associates, employers are split about continuing to give coverage under the new healthcare model.

Overall, 47 percent of businesses noted they are likely to switch to a defined contribution model, the report noted. However, 13 percent of employers considered to be fully insured, and 14 percent of self-insured companies, said they will likely get rid of employer-sponsored coverage. Much of this is due to worry about high costs, which would affect both companies and their employees.

"As the landscape of healthcare changes, employers face many choices in how to best serve their employees with competitive coverage at affordable costs," said Rick Millard, senior director of the healthcare practice at J.D. Power and Associates.

Many consumers may find it easier to get affordable health insurance rates by avoiding their company's changing healthcare structure altogether. By comparing health insurance quotes, an employee may find a better option than one that is offered by their company.
