Tuesday, June 12. 2012Sandwich generation should take insurance seriously
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners recently released a statement that encouraged consumers who belong to the sandwich generation to ensure that their family is adequately covered by their insurance plan.
Members of the sandwich generation are adults who have to take care of both an elderly parent, as well as a child or children who have not yet moved out on their own. The NAIC stressed that parents should be sure that if their child is a college student, that they are able to be cared for under the family's current health insurance plan. Typically, families are able to do this until the child turns 26. For those caring for parents, it is important that the person applies for Medicare coverage before the age of 65, the organization added. In addition, if they have gaps in their coverage, it is vital to look for additional coverage to cover these issues. If a person is looking for a healthcare option that will better cover their family than the current offering from their insurer, it may help to look for multiple health insurance quotes and compare them with the family's current plan. There could be not only a plan that is more substantive, but also has more affordable health insurance rates. Trackbacks
