The Employment Benefit Research Institute released a report which showed that the level of workers using their company's healthcare policy has declined markedly.

During April 2011, there was 55.8 percent of employees getting their policy from their workplace, according to the report. However, this was a significant drop from the beginning of the recession, when it was five percentage points higher. Much of the decline is due to affordability issues, as 90 percent of those polled said that they could no longer factor their company's policy into their expense plan.

"Employers have changed their focus to managing cost by changing the quality of the coverage that’s being provided," Paul Fronstin, director of health research and education at EBRI, told Today.com. "You see more cost shifting and more employee responsibility when it comes to the cost of health care services."
